Interior design requires a lot of creative and artistic thinking. But much like any design, it follows a set of fundamentals that every designer follows. Mastering these fundamentals can help you become your interior designer. Who knows, it might even become a side hustle of yours.

Here’s a list of essential interior design ideas that you and anyone else can learn.

What’s Your End Goal?

First, you have to think about your end goal. For most people, their end goal is to visualize their idea. So, for example, they’d want to have a pink-colored room with a baby crib with wallpapers filled with stars and other bright things. It looks good, doesn’t it? But you’ll soon realize that a visual representation of an idea can also be translated into one particular question: what’s the room for?

Many people don’t have artistic minds, and that’s why interior designers exist. It’s also the main reason they are expensive, costing on average $100 for a junior designer and triple that for a more experienced one. However, even if you don’t have an artistic mind, you can still be good at interior designing.

Your end goal can be as simple as answering what the room is for? Let’s go back to the example before, and let’s dissect the thought process that came alongside it. If you think that the room is for a baby, then connect different things that represent a baby. At first, you’ll think of a crib as the bed, then pink as color if it’s a girl, and blue if it’s a boy. Then there you have it. You already know the most fundamental idea of determining your end goal.

Most likely your end goal can be as simple as the example we’ve indicated above. You don’t have to have an artistic mind to determine your end goal. You only need to answer the question, what’s the room for?

Centerpiece Designing

Centerpiece designing is all about looking into the main star of your design. Usually, this is a piece of furniture, but it can be something else. A centerpiece design can help you easily visualize your end goal, which is an essential thing in interior designing. This is a bit more advanced than visualizing your end goal, but once you’ve mastered it, you can design any room to your liking.

Let’s go back to the example before, the baby room. So let’s say that your centerpiece for the room is the crib. What are different attributes that you can amplify from the crib alone? What about its color? So a pink-colored crib can fit into a much lighter-colored room. It can fit right into a pink wallpaper, but artistically, it can contrast with a sky blue instead. However, it can never fit into a purple or orange room.

This is just an example of centerpiece designing, and by the end of the day, it’s all about mixing and matching different ideas that’ll fit your centerpiece until you’ve arrived at the right one.

Bold Colors

In the field of interior design, you can never go wrong with bold colors. It’s trending right now, and it will continue to trend in the coming years.

Utilizing bold colors is all about choosing your favorite color and making it work. If your favorite color is blue, then you can make it work with furniture that has near the same spectrum of color as it, like black or maybe even indigo. It’s like centerpiece designing but utilizing colors instead of a piece of furniture. But our suggestion is that it can be your end goal for one of your rooms, but not all of your rooms. It’d be weird if all your rooms had the same color.

Go Minimal

If you don’t want to take a huge risk with these fundamentals, then it might be best if you go minimal.

Many millennials are obsessed with minimalist design, and there’s a good chance that the majority of your friends are in this generation. Minimalistic design is good because it’s cheap, and it lets the natural beauty of the place stand out. You don’t need to do something complicated. Stick to the basics and make it extravagant.

Photography Ideas

Once you’ve designed your first room, you should show the people what you’ve made. It’s a good pat in the back and a positive reinforcement that’ll keep you going.

There are many photography ideas out there as to how you can make your room stand out. If you don’t have the know-how, it might be better to hire commercial photography services to help you out. They can ensure that your first project will be in the eyes of many interested individuals. This will help you start your side gig as an interior designer. Interior designing is all about improving upon the fundamentals. Now that you know these fundamentals put them out there for people to r
