Cider enthusiasts gathered at the Brooklyn Expo Center for the second annual Pour the Core event. Over 75 styles of cider from over 40 different makers were available for tasting. Here are 6 sensations ciders you got to try!
Woodchuck Cider-Campfire Pancakes (5.5% ABV) Middlebury, Vermont – Campfire Pancake is made from a small batch of hard apple cider and infused with smoked apple pomace (skins, pulp, seeds, and stems) from Vermont Smoke & Cure and real maple syrup from a local sugarhouse. “It was great working with local companies to produce yet another innovative batch of cider that we know our fans will love,” said Woodchuck Cider Master, John Matson. This cider is great for brunch or sitting around a fire pit on a summer night.
Mission-Trail Cider Company Plum Jerkum (6.5% ABV) Bradly, California – Mission-Trail and Cider Company makes the only California 100% undiluted Plum Jerkum. This cider is made with a blend of 14 different types of top quality red-flesh plums grown directly from the orchard. All the plums are hand-washed and cold-pressed. The Plum Jerkum is perfect balance of tart and sweet. Definitely try this one-of- a-kind cider.
McKenzie’s Hard Cider Lazy Lemon (5% ABV) West Seneca, NY – Lemonade is in the summertime and so is McKenzie’s Lazy Lemon Cider. Replace your shandy with this zesty, sweet, and refreshing lemon cider!
Ace Cider Space- Bloody Orange (6.9% ABV) Sebastopol, CA – The Space Bloody Orange Cider is an unfiltered apple cider fermented with blood orange puree. Don’t worry this drink does not taste artificial like the Tang that astronauts drink, it is filled with a blast of fresh citrus flavor. Replace your mimosa or sparkling wine with this, you won’t be sorry.
Big Apple Hard Cider-Brooklyn Brew (6.3% ABV)-Brooklyn, NY – Big Apple Hard Cider is made in small batches with 100% New York State apples and is gluten free. This cider is available on draft in select bars within New York City’s five boroughs. Distributers need to bring this sweet, crisp, local cider to Long Island!
Doc’s Draft Hard Cider- Gold Rush- (7.2 ABV) Warwick Valley, NY – Gold Rush is created from 100% organic “Gold Rush apples.” The Gold Rush cider is made using a traditional keeving method that requires a 6-month cold fermenting process. The result is a clear naturally sweet sparkling cider, as good as gold!
