The Rumble Ponies are honored to announce the Eastern League has selected Binghamton to host the 2020 All-Star Game. League president Joe McEacharn, alongside team president John Hughes, revealed the news at a press conference Thursday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The selection marks a significant payoff for the community that saw a groundswell of support to host the game from local and state dignitaries, the New York Mets organization and, most importantly, the citizens of the Southern Tier. The All-Star Game will be sponsored by Eaton’s Ephesus Lighting, an industry leader in sports venue LED lighting systems.
The New York Mets announced that the club has placed lefthanded pitcher Steven Matz on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to August 15, with left shoulder tightness and recalled righthanded pitcher Robert Gsellman from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Matz underwent an MRI earlier today at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which revealed no structural damage to his left shoulder. Gsellman will wear #65.
New York Mets first baseman Lucas Duda will play with the Binghamton Mets this Saturday and Sunday on a Major League rehab assignment. Duda played two seasons with the B-Mets in 2009 and 2010 on his way to his Major League debut with the Mets five years ago. Duda landed on the disabled list on August 22 after suffering a thoracic herniation in his back.
