The eufy Security S230 Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi: The Review

You guessed it, I am back with another eufy security product. This time, I have upgraded my deadbolt lock, so I am fully integrated into my eufy ecosystem which is a big thing for me. Originally, I was using the Lockly Secure Deadbolt which I have been using for 3 years. It has served me well but as usual, with time, technology changes and improves. This time is no different.

The eufy Security S230 Smart Lock Touch & Wi-Fi, Fingerprint Scan, Keyless Entry Door Lock, Smart Wi-Fi Lock, Bluetooth Electronic Deadbolt, Touchscreen Keypad, BHMA Certified, IP65 Weatherproof. Right out of the gate it was very easy to install. and set up which I really appreciate.

My personal opinion, I recommend getting an extra rechargeable battery for the unit this way you are never without a smart lock while waiting to charge your battery. Something else I would recommend the security app will allow you to add multiple fingerprints for the same user. This can come in handy if you are coming into your house and happen to have things in your hand which you programmed. If you have both hands full, I can’t help you. Retina recognition is not yet available. lol

First thoughts on the lock, the finger recognition is quite responsive and the door locks and unlocks smoothly and quickly. What happens if your WiFi in your house goes out? Not to worry, you can still get into the house with fingerprint or passcode. The only thing you won’t be able to do is lock and unlock from your phone.

If you own a rental unit, you can also set up people to be able to set up passcodes on a schedule by time and dates where you can have it expire at the end of a set date as well. It’s easy to add codes and fingerprints, and easy to delete them, too. So if you no longer want to give someone access, just open the app and delete them. Also, since names are assigned to the fingerprints/codes you can see who locked/unlocked in the app. You can, of course, use fake names if someone is concerned about that. It can also alert you when there are failed attempts to unlock it, like if an unauthorized person tried to enter a incorrect code.

The lock is compatible with both ‎Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The generous 10,000 mAh capacity means you don’t have to worry about your Smart Lock running out of power. When a recharge is needed simply remove the battery or power up directly via the micro-USB port.

Pros:

  • Fingerprint reader is effective and fast
  • Simple install process
  • Key is proprietary so difficult to duplicate
  • Keypad scramble lets you add random numbers after you PIN to confuse people looking to see what numbers you touch when using keypad
  • Design is really elegant and isn’t and eyesore

Cons:

  • Key is proprietary so difficult to duplicate (Yes I know I said it was a pro)
  • Key cover is a bit difficult to remove if you need to use your key
  • Might be a bit bulky for your taste, I think it is fine
