AirSelfie AIR NEO: The Review

Have you ever wanted to get your first drone, but you were concerned about the price or worried about how you were going to fly it? What if I told you I could solve both of those problems for you (if you read the instructions, don’t do what I did. lol). Enter the AirSelfie AIR NEO, the self-flying drone that fits in the palm of your hand for a price of $160. Yup you heard me right.

Keep in mind for those looking for a full functional drone, this is not for you. It is geared towards those looking to enjoy taking a few photos or videos if no one is around or you want to grab a cool group photo at your next family gathering that you could share instantly on social media. I look forward to taking some family photos at our family Thanksgiving. Hopefully it won’t be too windy.

I was first introduced to AirSelfie some time ago at CE Week in NYC back in 2018. When I was first introduced to it, I knew it would be a cool item to test out.

The AirSelfie’s AIR NEO Selfie pocket drone is a great beginner drone for those curious about taking their talents to the skies. As a first-time flyer, it did take me a little time getting used to it and it did fly off a bit till I got the hang of it after I tried to avoid heavy winded areas.

I did find myself chasing after it a little bit but then again, I would have done better if I read the instructions first rather than just going out to test it on my own, lol. It took a little practice to figure out how to fly it through the app on the phone, but after getting the hang of it, it was real fun! For its size it does a nice job.

Right out of the box, the drone does come with enough charge for your mobile device to connect with and perform an initial calibration and test flight. The connected application is pretty intuitive, explaining the different features and functions of the Selfie Pocket Drone. There is also instructions right in the app so you won’t lose it.

One caveat I found was that the control layout presented in the AirSelfie app was simple to use, particularly as a person with previous experience with gaming joystick controls. However, if you have never used an arcade or home console gaming system, the control layout may take some getting used too. The artificial intelligence and auto-tracking technology made camera self-portraits and taking videos pretty easy!

With 16GB of onboard space stored in the already inserted SD card, capturing videos lasted well within flight time. Due to the ultra-compact structure of the drone, flying it in the elements proved difficult; however, that would be expected with a drone of its size. Overall learning the ins and out of AirSelfie’s AIR NEO Selfie Pocket Drone was a blast for my creative mind, and I am excited to see how AirSelfie improves on their products in the future.

The AIR NEO is a pocket-sized, ultra-light aerial camera which packs a 12 Megapixel Photos 1080p/30 FPS Video camera inside. It is AI powered providing manual, autofly flight, orbit and 360 degree flying modes, You can also share your pictures and video instantly on social media

Pros:

  • Pocket-sized allowing you to take it anywhere with ease
  • Nice quality photos and video
  • 60 foot range from the app controller
  • 6 full charges from the powerbank (sold seperately)
  • Great stocking stuffer

Cons:

  • Battery life is not that good, I was hoping for a bit more
  • No on-board microphone for video capture
  • motors are quite loud (so I guess mic may not work anyway)

You can purchase the Air Selfie AIR NEO on the Air Selfie website.

Price: Air Selfie AIR NEO $159.95 and AirSelfie Universal Powerbank $49.95.
Where to buy: Air Selfie, Amazon
