Thinking Of Replacing Your Car’s GPS Navigation? Here Are Some Reasons To Hold On To It

If you’ve got a car, then chances are you’re using some kind of navigation system to help you get around. These days, memorizing routes is a thing of the past and we don’t even need to keep a paper map in our car anymore (unless you need it for an emergency!). In fact, even satellite navigation systems are generally being replaced with smartphones because they’re less expensive, smaller, and ultimately more convenient.

But should you really dismiss the idea of buying or even upgrading your car’s GPS?

We believe that there’s still some value in keeping it around, and here are some of the reasons why.

A dedicated GPS is more sturdy than a phone

One of the best things about having a GPS device in your car is that it’s designed with a single purpose in mind. It’s not made of glass, it’s not going to shatter if you drop it, and it’s still surprisingly reliable. All of the components are replaceable, such as getting new GPS antennas or individual components, and they usually come with long warranties to ensure that they’re always functional.

As such, if you want a device that is going to continue serving you well for years to come, then a dedicated GPS device is going to be the best option.

It’s made to fit in your car

Another great reason to own a dedicated GPS device is that it comes with a ready-made mount, or it can even be built into your dashboard in some cases. This is much better than relying on a flimsy smartphone mount, and if you want a better one you’re going to have to fork out a lot of cash for it. Some mounts also don’t allow for your phone to be charged, and others might just break off after some time because they’re much lighter than your phone.

If you want a reliable GPS device, then buying a dedicated piece of equipment makes a lot more sense than trying to turn your smartphone into one.

They have larger displays

And perhaps the best reason why you should keep a dedicated GPS device handy is because they have larger displays. Let’s face it; even the largest smartphone is going to be a lot smaller than a typical dedicated GPS device. It’s going to be much easier to read, the touchscreen will be easier to work with, and you won’t need to squint or stare at a tiny screen in order to see where you’re going.

Since they have a larger screen, they also contain a lot more information which is excellent for monitoring traffic, looking at street names, speed limit information, and a lot more.
So if you own a car and are thinking about getting rid of your GPS device, you may want to think twice before you ditch it. There are still plenty of great reasons why you should hold on to it, especially if the only alternative is your smartphone.
