As a manager or a business owner, building a business that thrives is a huge challenge. There are a lot of spinning plates involved in running a business, and the employees we work with are one of the most crucial.
Hiring a team of dedicated individuals as well as investing in their happiness at work is incredibly important for a business and today we want to show you some of the ways you can build better working relationships with your employees and ensure they are happy and productive.
Here are just a few of the things you need to do when working with your employees that will improve your relationship as well as morale in the team.
Make time for a chat
As a manager, one of the most important things you can do is make time to catch up with your team members one on one. It is all too easy for an employer to forget about your individual employees and their needs but this will often lead to feelings of stress and inadequacy that can impact their professional performance. It is important to talk to your employee now and again about the role, how they are feeling, and if there are any things they wish to change or ways they want to propel their professional career. By keeping the feelings and needs of your employees in mind and showing them that it is important to you, you will garner more respect and gain a much better relationship with your employees.
One of the easiest ways to release tension around the office and make people feel more comfortable around you is to make jokes. Joking around with your team is a healthy form of banter and it will help them see you as more approachable should they have a question or an issue to discuss. You can even find jokes online such as work jokes, Sexist jokes, business jokes, and more. Making your team laugh is a good way to blow off steam and they will be more comfortable around you as a result.
Go out for a team lunch
Sometimes it is the office setting itself that hinders you from forming a relationship with your coworkers and employees. Usually, when everyone sits at their desks during the day they are focused on their work and simply don’t want to talk. This is why getting to know your team via a work lunch is a great idea. By taking the team to lunch you’ll remove the office from the equation and it will be much easier for you all to talk and get to know each other.
Try team-building exercises
Another way to get everyone together in one place is to host a team-building exercise. This could be a trip to an escape room, an outdoor adventure, or something completely new. Taking your team away from work and getting to know them as people is a great way to build a bond, and by doing team-building work you will likely benefit when you are back in the office again
