Right now, we’re seeing a lot of people looking for new ways to make money. And one method that’s been pretty hard to ignore recently is the rise of collectibles. Over the last year or so, the market for collectible items has grown massively. And there are some specific areas in which collecting, flipping and investing in these things has become a big money pursuit. Here are some of the items in particular that prove and demonstrate this new trend perfectly, so read on to find out more.
Star Wars Collectibles
Star Wars collectibles are very hot right now, and it’s all thanks to the resurrection of the franchise over the last 8 years or so. It’s brought in a lot of new fans who are discovering the old films for the first time too, as well as the merchandise that came with it. Those original toys and figures from the late 70s and 80s are now hugely expensive and massively collectible, especially when they’re in mint condition.
It’s only relatively recently that board games have been seen as valuable and worth collecting and even investing in. It’s definitely an expanding and growing market right now, with old games being worth in the thousands in some cases. A classic example is the 1975 version of Monopoly, as well as many other special and out of print Monopoly versions that have been released through the decades.
Sports Rookie Cards
If you don’t know already, a rookie card is the first car of a player’s career, whether that’s in basketball, baseball, football or soccer. The rookie cards attached to players who go on to become among the best in the world or the best of all time now fetch very high prices indeed. You only have to take a look at the Michael Jordan Rookie Card to see what I mean, and the market for top rookies is still growing.
Dolls and action figures are still highly collectible, and the brands and franchises that have persisted for decades are the ones that people tend to love most. Barbie dolls offer an example of that, with the dolls from the 50s and 60s, when Barbie dolls were first launched, reachined astronomical prices at auction. And as with most things on this list, condition dictates value.
Pokemon Trading Cards
Right now, Pokemon trading cards are very much in demand, especially cards that have been professionally graded and rank at a mint or near mint condition. The higher the grade, the more valuable the cards. And the most valuable and in demand Pokemon cards today are the base set from the 90s published by Wizards of the Coast, in particular the first editions. But other sets are growing in demand too right now.
The world of collectibles, toys and games now has so many vintage and valuable items that it has to be taken seriously. It’s not just fanboys and nostalgics who are interested in these things anymore; it’s investors and people who are serious about making long-term financial gains. That’s a fact that can no longer be dismissed.
