Working home can have a ton of benefits, but it can also be tough. You’re not in an office with other people around you to motivate you to work, and you have every distraction imaginable at home to call you away from your work. You have snacks, the TV, books, and maybe even your family prying you away from your work time and time again. That being said, working from home can be a great way to balance your family and work life, and a way to get things done at your own pace if you need to be at home for whatever reason. It can be great if you’re sick, waiting for an important delivery, if you have an appointment, or for another reason.
If the time does come for you to work from home, whether permanently or once in a while, you’ll benefit from knowing a few working from home hacks to keep you focused on the task at hand. Take a look and see what you can do to make working from home a breeze:
- Start Early and Stay Away From Distractions First Thing
Usually, people are more productive earlier in the morning. This might not be the case for you. Knowing when you are most productive will help you to get the hardest work done at that time, and then lighter tasks for when you’re not feeling so focused.
However, if you are one of the many people who get the most work done early on, make sure you start as soon as you can. Stay away from distractions, such as Emails and Facebook for as long as possible, too. Keeping your phone in another room is also a good idea.
- Make Sure Your Space Is Set Up Properly
Having a properly set up place to work is key. Make sure you are in a room or at least a corner where you will be left alone, and that everything is set up to your liking. Things like natural light and plants can be a great help if you want to feel more productive and in a better mood. Your computer and anything else you’ll be working with should also be working before you begin. Click here to learn how to fix a crashing app in MAC and troubleshoot other issues if you need to. - Schedule Your Breaks Just Like You Would In The Workplace
Breaks are crucial, so aim to take a break once every hour. A small break can help you to keep morale up and stay focused, just don’t let yourself break for too long or it can be tough to get started again.
- Know Your Goals For The Day
Write down your goals for the day, and keep them to a minimum so that they are achievable. Prioritize!
- Work With A Timer
Working with a timer can be a wonderful way to stay focused if this is something you struggle with.
- Avoid Multitasking
Multi tasking doesn’t actually help us to get anything done faster at all. Focus on one task at a time.
- Make Sure Your Family Know You Are Unavailable
If your family are at home, make sure they know you are unavailable unless an absolute emergency is taking place.
