Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Claret, as its British-derived name implies, is made in the same style as Bordeaux’s finest Medoc type wines. A Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec it’s blend is a deep, rich, firmly structured wine that exhibits an exceptional depth of truly unique flavors. In honoring the authenticity and heritage of wines made in this style by Captain Niebaum himself from California Vineyards dating back to 1910, they call their wine, Claret.
We decided to pick up a bottle of Francis Coppola Claret months ago as we have tried the Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cabernet Sauvignon and wanted to try others in the Coppola Collection. We were not at all disappointed with its aroma or flavor.
This medium to full bodied wine displays mild tannins. It shows notes of tart cherry, blackberry and plum flavors, with hints of dark chocolate and dramatic spiced oak and tobacco. Nice depth and structure with a nice finish. This wine would pair well with burgers and other basic BBQ, grilled pork chops, pastas and even pizza.
This has become our every day go to wine. for the price, the aromas and flavor are very nice. Much what we would expect from Francis Coppola.
It’s a premium wine at a popular price and it has set the bar for the quality of the entire brand. The bottle is distinguished with gold netting in order to convey its prestigious status, a tribute to the way Europe’s finest wines were once presented. This is a wine that you could drink now through 2020.

About The Vintage
We came off an early vintage in 2014 only to have an even earlier season in 2015.
Limited rainfall in the spring reduced yields and contributed to fruit with very good
concentration. Our 2015 Diamond Claret offers voluptuous body and supple tannins
with loads of red and black fruits, toasted spices, and an intriguing floral nuance.
Diamond Collection Claret typically includes some combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec to create a prestige Bordeaux-style blend, bottled with gold netting in the way Europe’s finest wines were once presented. Claret fruit is grown in a range of vineyards from diverse locations resulting in greater complexity. This vintage the majority of fruit came from Solano, El Dorado, and Lake counties, appellations that feature volcanic soils and higher elevations.
