SOUTH SHORE SHAKEDOWN Who Makes the Best Cocktail?
Long Island’s very first South Shore Shakedown, a competition featuring eight prominent South Shore bars/restaurants, will be held on Thursday, February 1st at T.J. Finley’s in Bay Shore, NY from 7-10pm. The event will raise funds for Gavin’s Got Heart, a local 501c3 charity with a mission to educate people about congenital heart defect (CHD) while offering support to families with children affected by CHD. www.gavinsgotheart.org. This friendly competition will challenge bartenders from the participating bars/restaurants to develop a signature cocktail that will propel them straight to the #1 spot. Participating bars/restaurants were invited because they share a passion for cocktails and cocktail culture. This year’s participants include: The Brixton, Coastal Kitchen & Daiquiri Bar, The Cortland, Fatwood Southern Kitchen, Perabell Food Bar, T.J. Finley’s Public House, Tallulah’s, and Verde Kitchen & Cocktails.
Hoping to win bragging rights and a trophy to display in their bar/restaurant, competitors will create a signature cocktail featuring one of the following: Smooth Amber Old Scout Bourbon, Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila, or Absolut Elyx Vodka. Attendees and official judges taste a 3-4 oz. sample of each cocktail creation. There will be two winners: THE POPULAR VOTE (based on votes cast by attendees) and JUDGE’S CHOICE (based on a consensus of the three judges).
The judges will evaluate the cocktails on four important criteria: Taste and Balance (40pts.), Creativity and Originality (30pts.), Presentation and Appearance (20pts.) and Creativity, Relevance and Appeal of Recipe Name (10pts.) The Judge’s Choice panel will be made up of industry and community leaders, and includes: Sean Graves, Brand Ambassador for Sazerac Co.; Mike Pellicano, District Sales Manager for Austin Eastciders, and Eddie Frazier, VP Community Relations for Northwell Health.
Tickets ($20) include admission, tee shirt for first 50 tickets sold, cocktail tastings, and tons of fun. Food will be available for sale. This is a 21+ event. All attendees must show valid photo ID for admission.
