Christmas is just around the corner, and if you haven’t already, the time is here to start buying presents. As well as the big gifts that you need to put a lot of thought into, there are also those little stocking fillers which are the extras which make someone’s Christmas extra special. You may think that you can’t go wrong when you are buying this type of gift, but there is definitely a good and a bad version of them. So, let’s look in more detail at just a few of the things that you should certainly avoid when you are buying stocking fillers.
Not Suiting Their Interests
You should be buying something that the recipient is going to think it interesting and fun, not something that you love. So, before you start browsing for stocking fillers, it is worth writing out a list of their interests, When you are looking for presents, you should be aiming to fit the gift under one or more of these categories.
Not Getting Their Size Right
If you buy someone an item of clothing to wear, you need to make sure it is actually going to fit them in the first place. Whether you are buying funny socks or a warm woolly hat, always check out the size first. If you don’t know what the recipient’s size is, try asking someone close to them so you don’t give the game away of what you are going to be buying.
Getting Them Something That Reminds Them of Work
People often want to try to forget about their job during the festive period so they can relax and unwind, so avoid buying something that is going to directly make them think of their workplace. For example, bartenders are probably sick of seeing drinking glasses, chefs are likely to own every cooking utensil under the sun and accountants are not going to appreciate you getting a calculator for them – no matter how funny you think that this is!
Not Suiting Their Lifestyle
It helps to think about every aspect of the person’s life before you buy a stocking filler for them. For example, if they live in a block of apartments, some gardening equipment is not going to do them any good at all! Similarly, if they don’t own a car, there is absolutely no point in getting them some car air freshener!
Considering Whether or Not They Love Christmas
Though it is always nice to get someone a gift that they love, unfortunately this is not going to happen for some people. So, if you have drawn the Scrooge of the office in your work secret Santa, there is not a great deal of point putting extra time and effort into their gift ideas. On the other hand, if they love Christmas already, you can take a bit of extra time wrapping their present and making sure everything looks wonderful.
Hopefully, this little guide of what to avoid will make buying stocking fillers that little bit easier.
