BenQ HT1070A Projector: The Review

BenQ, projector, 1080P, CinematicColor, six-segment color wheel,

When you think of the big names in projector televisions BenQ may not be in the forefront of your list but don’t be fooled, this low priced projector gives a great bang for the buck. Perfect right out of the box, with its easy set up it is easy to operate providing a great image quality at 30″ diag to 11′ diag. Having used this indoors on a wall, it was great. We hope to utilize it outdoors and will further test it there but will have to get the wireless adaptor (QCast) so we can stream straight from our smartphone. The all-new, value-oriented HT1070A projector transforms the entertainment experience with best-in-class color quality at native Full HD resolution. With specialized sports video and sound modes, the HT1070A is just the ticket for enjoying every game on the big screen as well as family movie night without blowing the budget just in time for Post Season baseball, football, basketball and hockey season.

We have been using our BenQ to watch Post Season Baseball and BenQ has  provided a new way to enjoy sports for us. Prior to this, we have never watched sports on anything larger than a 65″ DLP television. BenQ has made setup real easy with the dedicated Sport picture mode, just one of three dedicated picture mode settings (Sport, Vivid TV, and Cinema). Each one is carefully calibrated to give you the best image quality possible depending on what you are watching. That was the only setting we changed and everything just popped. There is something about watching sports on a screen so large and clear. Give me some popcorn, a beer and a dog and you almost feel like you are there. Now if only they could add smellavion technology so we can smell the ballpark. lol Maybe next model.

The projector boasts: a six-segment color wheel (RGBRGB) with six times the speed to produce incredibly realistic color depth covers more than 96% of the Rec.709 color space and range with CinematicColor™ technology. You can see the depth and range of colors are maximized to deliver an incredibly clear image performance without an annoying rainbow effect.

Viewers can feel even more immersed in the action and will be in awe with the color performance; an incredibly bright image at 2,000 lumens, bringing picture clarity to any room; a short-throw distance that allows big screen enjoyment up to 100 inches at just 9.8 feet away from the screen; and a rich set of connectivity options, including dual HDMI inputs — all at an incredibly low MSRP of $699.

It is absolutely the best picture for the dollar. For their prices the HT1070A and slightly nicer HT2050 are nearly impossible to beat because of their contrast advantage over practically the entire <$1200 market and their accuracy and full-color brightness advantage over similarly-priced Optoma models.

BenQ Corporation is a Taiwanese multi-national company that sells and markets technology products, consumer electronics, computing and communications devices under the “BenQ” brand name, which stands for the company slogan Bringing Enjoyment N Quality to life. Its principal products include TFT LCD monitors, digital projectors, digital cameras, and mobile computing devices.

Disclosure: I received the BenQ HT1070A in exchange for my honest review. The opinions expressed in my review are my own. No other compensation was given.
