Most people are familiar with the phrase “bring home the bacon” but where did it come from? Well in the twelfth century, a church in the English town of Dunmow promised a side of bacon to any married man who could swear before the congregation and God that he had not quarreled with his wife for a year and a day. A husband who could bring home the bacon was held in high esteem by the community for his forebearance. In today’s society men can’t do that but men and women alike have been known to share their love of bacon with things like Bacon-of-the-month clubs, bacon recipe contests, blogs, a dating app for bacon lovers, and even “bacon camps.” Bacon-Mania has taken over!

Praised as “The Bacon Event of the Year” by top food bloggers last year, The Great Big Bacon Picnic is on for September 24 & 25, 2016. This weekend long, indoor/outdoor gourmet celebration of the most delicious item on earth – BACON – will once again be held at the Old Pfizer Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

This dynamic festival will showcase the talents of over 100 of the NYC area’s top restaurants, chefs, food trucks, brew masters, distillers and mixologists and will feature three different sessions of inspired bitesized bacon dishes and the best in craft beers & specialty cocktails.

With music from Brooklyn’s own High & Mighty Brass Band (Bonnaroo, Governors Ball) and other local talent, the organizers – Lon & Craig Taylor of Great Big Food Events – have created a festival that gives bacon lovers a truly gluttonous and unique culinary experience.
