Mobile App Review: Tripit
I may not travel as much as some but I do like to keep my travel information easily accessible and all in one place. So having a way to automatically have complete travel itineraries from my email confirmation notices and maps of destinations and airport terminals. Yes, TripIt offers a unique service by automatically scanning your emails and turning all your travel email confirmations into a complete and neat itinerary including flight, hotel, and other travel information. It’s a must-have for any traveler. It’s an ideal service to offer in a mobile app and a wonderful convenience for travelers. I recently booked my annual family vacation and before I knew it all my flight plans were in its place. It even put it in my iPhone calendar and FlightTrackPro. The app also keeps all your previous flight plans as well.
TripIt is familiar with purchases you make on all the major search and booking sites, such as Orbitz and Kayak, as well as airlines, car rental services, hotels, restaurant reservations, and much more. If TripIt misses an important travel email, you can forward it along, and the service will either figure out what to do with info or stick it to the side until you can review and type in the details manually.
Keep in mind, there is a Free version and a Pro version ($49 / year) which is more robust, providing flight alerts, informing you of alternative flights, conveniently keeps track of your rewards points, provides flight refunds and more. Personally I do not find the need for all of these extras for the added price tag as I believe the average traveler will feel the same. That being said, if you are a frequent traveler you may find the extras quite convenient.
