If you’re one of those people that enjoys battling with the wilderness, away from the commodities of the modern world, there are a few things you’ll need.
A Compass and Map – When you’re trying to navigate the great outdoors, you need to have a good idea of where you are and where you’re going. But you can’t do that if you don’t have a map and a functioning compass in your backpack. Even if you don’t have a map, a compass will help you make sure you’re heading in the right direction. But it’s always best to have both just to be on the safe side.
Water – Water is vital for survival. The last thing you to want to do is become dehydrated when you’re out in the wild, miles away from the modern conveniences. This is something that a lot of first-time adventurers forget about, but it’s absolutely essential that you don’t forget it. All you need is a large water bottle filled with water. Of course, if you expect to be out longer, take more.
Matches – If you’re going to be eating while you’re out, you’ll need to make sure that you can start a fire and start the stove. You could try to do it the complicated way by creating a spark from two pieces of wood. But that’s quite a difficult and time-consuming way of doing things. And it’s much simpler to take a box of matches or a lighter to get the fire started.
A Knife – If you’re going to be hunting your own food while you’re out in the wild, it’s a good idea to invest in a good knife. This will make the process much easier. And those knives are also great for cutting through plants and branches that are in your way when you’re trying to make your way through the wilderness.
Sleeping Bag and Tent – Shelter is important. Even if you don’t intend to be spending the night in the wilderness, it’s a good idea to take a sleeping bag if you’re heading out late. Then, if the worst happens, and you can’t get home, you should be able to keep warm through the night. But if you know that you’re spending the night, it’s best to take a tent too.
A Camera – When you’re out in the wild, you can happen across some stunning sights. You want to be able to capture those images in high quality, so make sure you take a good camera with you. If you have a decent smartphone, you can just use that. This will save you some space in your backpack, and it’ll be useful in case you need to make a call – as long as you can get a signal that is.
Durable Footwear – In terms of your clothing, the most essential part is your choice of footwear. You need to have strong and durable shoes on your feet. This is the only way to make sure that your feet will be kept safe and warm, no matter how harsh the environment or the weather conditions are.
