The New York Mets last night announced the club has selected outfielder Desmond Lindsay from The Out-of-Door Academy in Sarasota, FL with the 53rd overall pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The 6-0, 200-pounder was a 2015 Perfect Game All-American and a Florida All-Region First Team. Lindsay, 18, was the MVP for the 17 and under World Wood Bat Association National Championship last year after batting .387 (12-31) with three home runs and 10 RBI.
Lindsay first enrolled at The Out-of-Door Academy as a seventh-grader and spent six years at the school. He was the first student to benefit from a scholarship fund and so to pay it forward from January, 2014-April, 2015, Lindsay raised $44,000 for the Taylor Emmons Scholarship.
