Juan Lagares Named A Rawlings Gold Glove Finalist
Mets outfielder Juan Lagares was named a finalist for the Rawlings Gold Glove award for National League centerfielders today. Lagares joins Cincinnati centerfielder Billy Hamilton and Washington centerfielder Denard Span as finalists. The announcement will be made on Tuesday, November 4 on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m.
Lagares finished second among major league outfielders with 28 defensive runs saved, playing 372.0 fewer innings than leader Jason Heyward, who had 32. He had six assists, with three getting a runner at the plate. Lagares’ Ultimate Zone Rating per 150 games (UZR/150) was 25.3, second among all major leaguers.
Lagares could become the third Mets outfielder to earn a Rawlings Gold Glove, joining Tommie Agee (1970) and Carlos Beltran (2006-2008).
