200lb Pumpkin Filled With Ale Tips Scale At Pumpkinfest

T.J. Finley’s Public House is carving out time for one of their biggest nights of the year, their 6th Annual Pumpkinfest this weekend, October 18th, 2014. The event is a celebration of the great gourd and the ever-popular beers that are brewed with it. A tap takeover like no other, attendees can pick a pumpkin beer—more than 10 on tap exclusively for the Pumpkinfest—from local and regional breweries including Long Ireland Beer Co., Blue Point Brewery, Great South Bay Brewery, Fire Island Beer Co., Greenport Harbor, Harpoon Brewery, Saranac Brewery, and more. The festivities begin at 6:00 pm and the first 200 attendees will receive a mini pumpkin to use as their mug! There is no cover charge to enter, it is a pay as you go event with pints of pumpkin beer served in a cinnamon and sugar rimmed glass or in a mini pumpkin offered at $6 each. This is a 21+ event.

At 7:00 pm Pumpkinfest attendees will gather around as the crew from Great South Bay Brewery taps their infamous 200lb giant pumpkin. The giant pumpkin will be hollowed out and filled with their award-winning pumpkin ale, Splashing Pumpkin. This beer received high honors at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO., winning a bronze medal in 2013.

New This Year…Pumpkinfest will also be hosting the first-ever SaraNAC-O-LANTERN pumpkin carving contest sponsored by Saranac Brewery. All artisits/contestants who submitted a jack-o-lantern for judging by October 13th between 5-10pm received a complimentary pint of Saranac pumpkin ale. Pictures of all carved pumpkins will be featured in a ballot accessible via links on both the T.J. Finley’s website and Facebook pages, for public voting. Voting closes at midnight on Friday, October 17th. Winner will be announced at Pumpkinfest. First Place receives a $150 private pub credit to T.J. Finley’s, a T.J. Finley’s prize pack, and a bottle of Crop Organic Spiced Pumpkin Vodka.; Second Place will receive at $75 private pub credit, a T.J. Finley’s prize pack, and a bottle of Crop Organic Spiced Pumpkin Vodka; Third Place will receive a $50 private pub credit and a T.J. Finley’s prize pack.

“This is easily one of our biggest nights of the year,” said Andrew Dvorkin, co-owner of T.J. Finley’s in Bay Shore. “The festival attracts pumpkin beer lovers from all over Long Island. They love drinking out of the mini pumpkins and drinking locally produced seasonal beers. This event is the perfect prequel to the holiday season,” added Dvorkin. Food will be available for purchase.   4. This sounds very cool. I haven’t had pumpkin beer before, but I hope it tastes a whole lot better than a pumpkin martini (yuck!). I think attending a Pumpkinfest would be a lot of fun.
