Google Glass Value Is Worth Much Less
Google Glass could be worth only a fraction of its $1,500 asking price, according to a report. TechInsights performed a teardown of the headset and concluded that its components cost just $79.78 combined.
Google Glass’s most expensive component is its Texas Instruments OMAP4430 processor, which can be purchased for as little as $13.96.
While the overall figure does not include development costs, TechInsights does not believe that the device’s value will reach even close to its asking price with all factors considered.
Google has dismissed the report, with a spokesperson for the web giant telling the Wall Street Journal that its findings are “absolutely wrong”.
The $1,500 price tag referred to the prototype Explorer edition of Google Glass, with a price and release date for the consumer version yet to be announced.
