WWE 2K14: Game Review
So last night I went out and picked up WWE 2K14. My Xbox 360 went red ring of death on me so I went to GameStop and traded it in along with a few other things for a store credit. I originally saw the game at Best Buy and really liked the concept incorporating 30 Years of Wrestlemania. As an old-school wrestling fan, it was nice to see Hulk Hogan, King Kong Bundy, Andre the Giant and many others from years past.
That’s not to say the game is totally perfect. It looks visually pleasing for the most part – like the real thing at times – but there are serious object detection and animation issues. A few minutes of playing and you will be niggled by your wrestler seemingly passing into solid objects, and the controls can prove tricky too. Nevertheless, for the most part, wrestling fans will find 2K14 to be an absolute treasure chest of goodies especially old school fans.
Since the series became part of 2K’s sports label when the publisher acquired it from THQ in February, it was unknown just how much would be different in the transition from WWE 13 to WWE 2K14. As it turns out, WWE 2K14 bears a strong resemblance to WWE 13, which isn’t too surprising given that developer Yuke’s had already begun working on the project before the acquisition. That being said the last version I actually owned was WWE2K11.
I give it a 8 out of 10 mainly because of the Wrestlemania mode.
Have you played WWE 2K14? What do you think of it?
