Dollar Shave Club: The Review

This weekend I figured I would try the Dollar Shave Club “The 4x” blades and compare it to the Gillette ProGlide that I currently have. if you shave, you know how expensive replacement blades can be. for me, I not only shave my face but my dome as well. I have been shaving my head since 2004 so as you can imagine I have gone through a lot of blades over the part 9 years.

First Impressions:
I was pleasantly surprised with the sturdiness and weight of the Dollar Shave Club handle. It was comfortable to hold and did glide well across my face. The spring action was nice as well.

For comparison, I shaved half of my face with the Dollar Shave Club razor and half with my Gillette Fusion razor (both with fresh blades). While the Dollar Shave Club razor gave a capable shave. I felt less tugging with Dollar Shave Club razor and felt I had spent more time on the Gillette side. The final test was the “Wife” feel test. My wife agreed that the side that I used the Dollar Shave Club was smoother.

The “Quick Rinse” Test:
I did a quick rinse of both blades in warm/hot standing water and maybe it was the difference of 4 blades to 5 blades but the Dollar Shave Club actually came out clean where the Gillette ProGlide was gunked up. (See in the photos below) sorry for the slight blurriness)

As you can see by the chart below, the Gillette razor and blades are quite a bit more expensive.

Gillette Dollar Shave Club
Handle/blades $26.99 (5) $6.00 (4)
extra blades $32.99 (8 blades)

$10.00 (8 blades)

In Conclusion:
Based on all factors including especially the price, I will be switching from my Gillette to the Dollar Shave Club. The Dollar Shave Club blades cost $1.25 per blade where the Gillette blades run approximately $4.13 per blade. WOW that is a big difference.

Dollar Shave Club razors are available exclusively through the Dollar Shave Club website.

Disclosure: I received a sample of the Dollar Shave Club 4X handle and blades from Dollar Shave Club, Inc. in exchange for my honest review. The opinions expressed in my review are my own. No other compensation was given.
